Other executives are assuming leadership roles at Hitachi as a result of the expected retirement of two important executives.
Al Quinn will be replaced as CEO of Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas by Hidehiko Matsui, a current Hitachi executive who has also been named chairman. Matsui has held positions in a number of Hitachi’s regions, including three years as chairman and managing director of Hitachi Construction Machinery Asia and Pacific Pte. Ltd. and five years in Europe. Since 2022, his most recent positions have included those of president of the rental and used equipment business unit, president of the global marketing group, and chief marketing officer.
According to Hitachi, Matsui will be in charge of growing the company’s rental division in North America.
Quinn spent 11 years in executive roles at Volvo Construction Equipment before joining Hitachi in 2017. Before becoming CEO in 2021, when the company ended a 33-year joint venture with John Deere on excavators, he was vice president and later managing director of Hitachi’s loaders division in the Americas.
The additional retirement of Sonosuke Ishii, who took over as chairman in early 2022, leaves a void that is filled by Matsui’s appointment. Over the years, Ishii held a number of positions at Hitachi, including senior vice president and executive officer, head of the mining group, president of Hitachi Construction Machinery Eurasia sales, and vice president and executive officer.
Furthermore, Quinn’s duties will be taken on by Simon Wilson, who has been Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas’ chief operations officer since 2019. Wilson was previously the vice president of construction. Wilson brings a wealth of equipment sector expertise to the position. He was the director of operations for Titan Machinery, a dealer of CNH Industrial, for 11 years before that.
