In the midst of the West Asia crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to work together to strengthen the country. Yesterday, the Prime Minister made seven appeals to the country while speaking at a ceremony in Hyderabad.
He asked people to use public transportation and carpooling to cut back on the amount of imported petroleum they use, therefore contributing to the preservation of foreign exchange reserves. The West Asia crisis and the ongoing impasse in the Strait of Hormuz have caused crude oil prices to rise past $100 USD per barrel, which coincides with the Prime Minister’s request. By the end of last month, the price of crude oil had reached a 52-week high of 126 US dollars per barrel.
Prime Minister Modi asked people to reconsider their discretionary spending, including refraining from traveling abroad for a year. Additionally, he urged people to look into measures to cut back on foreign spending, such reevaluating destination weddings overseas or restricting large purchases of gold for a year. Additionally, PM Modi demanded that work-from-home policies be revived.
The prime minister also advised farmers to lessen their reliance on artificial fertilizers imported from overseas and asked residents to consume less edible oil. In support of the “Vocal for Local” movement, he emphasized that organic farming and self-sufficiency are crucial for India to meet its 2047 Viksit Bharat target.
