The 10-year cooperation between UMS (United Mining Supply) and Renault Trucks has demonstrated how long-term fleet coordination can support large-scale mining logistics in one of the world’s most challenging operating situations. The agreement, announced in July 2026, focuses on how vehicles, maintenance, training, and data-driven fleet management have evolved to assist Guinea’s bauxite industry.
Key Highlights of the Partnership Ten years of collaboration: The connection began in 2016 with backing from Renault Trucks’ local dealer, TGH Plus, and has grown steadily over the last decade. Renault Trucks has delivered over 600 trucks to UMS as part of the cooperation, which supports mining and logistics operations throughout Guinea. 350 Renault Trucks K in active service: UMS’s mining fleet currently includes around 350 Renault Trucks K heavy-duty trucks that deliver bauxite from mine sites to port terminals. Supporting Guinea’s Bauxite Industry
Guinea is the world’s largest bauxite exporter, and the Boké region is home to some of the country’s largest mining facilities. UMS trucks work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, hauling ore over difficult roads with enormous cargoes.
Each truck travels more than 190,000 kilometers per year, and the fleet as a whole traverses more than 66 million kilometers per year, demonstrating the scope and intensity of mining logistics in the country.
Focus on fleet reliability.
Rather than simply supplying vehicles, Renault vehicles collaborates with UMS to maximize fleet uptime through:
Telematics data are analyzed on a monthly basis to optimize fuel economy and operation cycles. Inventory management for spare parts is done jointly. Ongoing technical support. Vehicle enhancements based on actual operational feedback from Guinea’s mining areas.
Some engineering modifications originally designed for UMS have since been included into Renault Trucks’ larger heavy-duty solutions for tough situations.
Workforce Development
Training is another important aspect of the cooperation.
Within UMS’s own workshops, more than 150 mechanics work rotating shifts to keep the fleet in working order. Renault Trucks offers annual technical training to mechanics, drivers, and instructors. Specialists visit mining sites twice a year to provide eco-driving and safety instruction, thereby improving both operational efficiency and workplace safety. Why does it important to the mining industry?
The cooperation represents an industry move away from merely purchasing heavy equipment and toward long-term operational partnerships. For mining businesses, perks include:
Increased equipment availability and reduced downtime. Reduce operating and maintenance expenses with predictive fleet management. Telematics improves fuel efficiency. Continuous operator training ensures safer operations. Instead of laboratory testing, equipment evolves in response to real-world mining situations.
As Guinea grows as a worldwide bauxite supplier, integrated logistics partnerships like the one between UMS and Renault Trucks become increasingly vital for ensuring efficient and dependable mineral supply chains.
