At the 2026 CONEXPO-CON/AGG show, Caterpillar launched two new 4-tine orange peel grapples, the Cat® GSV420 and GSV425, to replace older models on material handlers and large excavators. The new grapples focus on moving material faster, handling bulkier loads, and simplifying maintenance.
A key improvement is the redesigned tine curvature, which increases the grapple fill factor by up to 200%, allowing operators to handle much more material per cycle. This is paired with a new rotation system that boosts hydraulic flow capacity by up to 160% compared to the previous generation, leading to significantly faster cycle times.
To support these performance gains, Cat engineered the GSV grapples to be lighter and more durable, using cast components in place of traditional welds. The design also focuses on easier upkeep, featuring ground-level grease points for safety, simplified access to hydraulics, and extended service intervals.
The new grapples are available for material handlers in the 20- to 40-ton class and excavators from 14 to 31 tons. They are currently available in North America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East
