Liebherr has introduced the LMD 1200 mining dragline, a purpose-built equipment designed for wet and dry mining operations that prioritizes productivity, mobility, and operator comfort.
The LMD 1200, which was unveiled during Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH’s 50th anniversary festivities in June 2026, is now accessible to clients around the world.
The machine has a modular boom system that can be modified to meet varied operating conditions, and its maximum lifting capability of 30 tonnes at a 40m working radius gives it the 1200 classification.
The LMD 1200 is designed for continuous operation in tough situations, with a sturdy steel structure that ensures high availability and a long service life even in adverse weather.
The dragline can dig to depths of 25m and has a bucket capacity of up to 12.25 cubic metres. Liebherr stated that twin hydraulic motors automatically alter winch speeds to meet the needed digging force, resulting in optimal bucket filling, shorter operating cycles, and increased handling capacity.
The machine also has a pivoting roller head fairlead and an automatic positioning device that helps to reduce rope wear. A bigger rope diameter, standard grooving, and a redesigned rope lock are intended to increase rope longevity and save downtime during rope changes.
Liebherr claims that the LMD 1200 combines engine power with lower hydraulic pressure to provide efficient operation with minimal fuel consumption. Its internal 1000 L fuel tank and 8270 L auxiliary tank allow for uninterrupted operation for up to one week without refueling.
The dragline can be moved around a mine with the boom dropped, and the full 360 t equipment may be constructed or disassembled in under a week.
A noise-optimized cabin, an all-around video system, a heated, cooled, and ventilated orthopaedic seat, a second training seat, air conditioning, and night-operation lighting are among the features that enhance operator comfort. Liebherr application engineers will train operators to assist customers increase their field productivity.
