The Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA) marketing and promotion team, led by Mervat Mostafa, visited Perth, Western Australia, a worldwide mining hub.
The team met with universities, mining and consultancy firms, and business organizations to discuss recent legislative and institutional reforms.
They highlighted open blocks for gold, phosphate, talc, and kaolin exploration and invited Australian mining companies attend the Egypt Mining Forum in September.
At Curtin University’s Western Australian School of Mines (ranked second in the world for mining sciences), the team met with John O’Neill, Director of Global, Government, and Industry Relations, to propose expediting a two-month training program for Authority officials.
The group talked on investment promotion with Andrew Hunter, CEO of Hunter & Co Advisory. During conversations with Jennie Johnson, Membership and Sponsorship Manager at the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies (AMEC), the team described recent reforms and the open blocks system.
Howard Golden, CEO of Marvel Gold, indicated considerable interest in the offered opportunities, and the two parties discussed procedural and technical specifics.
The team also visited with mining consultancy firms, such as Harrington & O’Sullivan, Bishop Resources, Fraser McGill, and Keystone Resource Development, to discuss Egypt’s new investment climate and mining potential. Bishop Resources confirmed its strong intention to invest and engage in the Egyptian market.
In a discussion with Victor Yang, Executive Director of Xinghai Australia, a provider of integrated mining solutions, the two parties reviewed the company’s global competence, current changes in Egypt’s mining sector, and potential collaboration and investment.
The delegation also met with the Australia-Africa Minerals & Energy Group (AAMEG), which was hosted by BDO Group, as well as officials from other industries and banks.
In June 2026, the MRMIA implemented the “Open Blocks” licensing mechanism for gold and mineral exploration. A digital portal is being developed to allow worldwide investors to apply all year to explore minerals like gold and phosphate on flexible terms.
This strategy is drawing investment into the mineral-rich Arabian-Nubian Shield. Aton Resources of Canada announced in December 2025 that it is moving forward with commercial gold production at the Abu Marawat project. In November 2024, Egypt said that it plans to increase mining’s contribution to GDP from 0.5% to between 5% and 6% by 2030.
